Crystal name: Covellite
Best known for: Psychic activation | Transformation | Intuitive insight
Chakra: Third Eye, Crown (also stimulates Throat for higher communication)
Use + Metaphysical properties:
Covellite is a powerful stone of inner vision and spiritual awakening. Its deep indigo-blue to metallic violet sheen reflects its ability to access hidden knowledge and expand consciousness. This is a crystal for those seeking profound transformation — helping dissolve limiting beliefs, awaken intuitive gifts, and connect with higher realms.
Energetically, Covellite supports psychic development, dream work, and energy healing. It encourages truthful self-expression and assists in breaking through emotional stagnation. Its energy is both grounding and expansive, making it ideal for those doing deep personal or spiritual work.
Covellite is also known as a stone of rebirth and renewal, guiding one through transitions with clarity and resilience.
Chemical composition: Copper sulfide – CuS
Mohs Hardness: 1.5 – 2 (soft and delicate)
Geological Formation:
Covellite forms as a secondary mineral in copper deposits, typically through hydrothermal processes or the alteration of other copper sulfide minerals such as chalcocite and chalcopyrite. It develops in oxidised zones of copper ore bodies, often appearing as thin, metallic plates or iridescent coatings on other minerals.
Its striking indigo-blue colour and metallic lustre are due to its copper-rich composition and crystal structure. Major sources include Peru, Chile, the United States, Canada, and Namibia.
Because of its softness and layered crystal habit, Covellite is best kept as a display specimen rather than a carry stone.
Feng Shui:
Covellite carries strong Water element energy, associated with depth, wisdom, and flow.
