Blue chalcedony is known as a meditative and nurturing stone, used to promote balance and harmony, while neutralising negative energies and promoting positive energy, communication and feelings of happiness and harmony. The Native American Indians used blue chalcedony for stability during ceremonial events as it was viewed as a sacred stone. They also used it to promote successful communication from the spirit world.

Blue chalcedony is a mineral of silicon dioxide, making it a variety of quartz, specifically a cryptocrystalline quartz. This means that the crystals making up chalcedony are too small to be seen by the naked eye, and can only be seen under a microscope. Blue chalcedony specifically has a unique and beautiful soft blue translucence and can commonly be found in volcanic rocks, sedimentary rocks and geodes. Its formation occurs through precipitation of silica in water rich environments, which then deposits in cavities, rock fractures and geodes. Over time, microcrystalline structures are formed, allowing these silica rich minerals to form together into small crystals, growing to make up the chalcedony.

In Feng Shui, blue chalcedony is known as the speakers stone, and is used to enhance one's ability to speak, communicate and verbalise, while also promoting meditation and encourages reflection. It is also used in Feng Shui to encourage the flow of fluids in the body. Blue chalcedony represents the Water Element in Feng Shui and is usually placed in the North area of the home or room to enhance energies of reflection and renewal.
