Chemical composition: Tourmaline is a boron-ring silicate with a very complex chemical formula of XY3Z6B3Si6(O,OH)30(OH,F) - where X, Y and Z can be a number of elements such as calcium, sodium, aluminium, iron, magnesium, chromium and lithium.
Black tourmaline is a mineral crystal that most often forms within a type of Igneous rock, called Pegmatite. Pegmatite forms when molten magma cools and a mix of rainwater and minerals fill the cracks in the magma. These veins of hot liquid are rich in Earth elements such as silicon and iron. As the watery mix of elements and magma cools, it creates solid pegmatite rock, with tourmaline crystals inside.
This stone is also 'pyroelectric' and 'piezoelectric', meaning it has the ability to produce electricity once it’s heated, and can store electrical charge. Many believe that the stone’s pyroelectric and piezoelectric properties make it extremely powerful, bringing many benefits to one’s health and well-being.
Feng Shui:
Black tourmaline is associated with your Root Charkra, located at the base of your spine and responsible for your sense of security, stability and feeling grounded. In Feng Shui, tourmaline placed in the North of your work desk is said to release work and personal stress.
