Aquamarine is made of a beryllium and aluminium silicate and is part of the Beryl family of minerals, similar to emerald rough rock. Beryl can be many colors but when it's blue or blue-green it is called aquamarine. Aquamarine forms in granite pegmatite rocks and hydrothermal veins and cavities, where the hydrothermal processes modify the composition of the granite. In the pegmatite rock, there are generally internal cracks, where the hot magma heats the rocks underground. Eventually when the magma cools, the crystallisation process within the pegmatite will take place, forming the aquamarine. This process can take anywhere from tens of thousands to millions of years.
